On the sidelines of his participation in the 166th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level—held today, September 7, 2026, in Cairo—Mr. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, took part in the 11th meeting of the Arab Ministerial Committee tasked with international action to confront illegal Israeli policies and measures in occupied Jerusalem.

The meeting takes place amidst an escalation of Israeli attacks and violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem (Al-Quds Al-Sharif), and growing threats targeting the Palestinian presence in the Holy City—including attempts to undermine its legal, historical, and demographic status.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review progress made in implementing recommendations from the previous session, held on August 5, 2026, in Amman, Jordan. That earlier meeting had concluded with the adoption of a statement emphasizing the need for concerted Arab and international efforts to halt Israeli attacks and violations in occupied Jerusalem.

The statement underscored the importance of continued action at all levels to provide necessary support to the Palestinian people and institutions in Jerusalem, enabling them to confront Israeli policies and practices aimed at altering the city’s character, identity, and legal status, while preserving the Palestinian presence and safeguarding the foundations of the Palestinian national project.

It also reaffirmed the necessity of intensifying Arab and international efforts to defend Jerusalem, protect its Islamic and Christian holy sites, and counter Israeli schemes aimed at imposing a new *fait accompli* in the city, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and international law.
