National Military Service

Mesures for Exemption from National Service Obligations for Citizens Abroad.

In accordance with the provisions of Presidentiel Decree No. 24-184 of June 11, 2024, mesures to exempt from National Service Obligations citizens born before January 1, 1995, not yet incorporated, have been issued for the benefit of our citizens residing abroad. 

The concerned persons are invited to bring to the Embassy without an appointment or to send by mail the following :

• Birth Certificate
• Two (02) identity photos
• A copy of the consular registration card 

Census of citizens born between 1^st January and 31^stDecember2008.

In accordance with the provisions of Law No: 14-06 of August 9, 2014, relating to national service and the relevant implementing texts, a census operation of Algerian citizens residing in the consular district of the Algerian Embassy in Canberra, Australia,of class 2028, will be carried out from 2^nd January to 30^thSeptember 2025.

The concerned persons are invited to bring to the Embassy without an appointment or to send by mail, before 30^thSeptember2025 (last deadline), the following :

• One (01) birth certificate in Arabic
• A copy of the consular registration card of the interested party or legal guardian (for minors)
• Two (03) recent standard passport size photos (name and surname on the back)

Deferment:
All students may defer their National Service for the duration of their studies . In order to avoid unnecessary delays, applications for deferment should be submitted to the Consulate at the beginning of each academic year.

Documents Required:

• Completed application form.
• Four recent passport photographs.
• Current birth certificate.
• Proof of enrolment from University or place of study.

Deferment must be renewed annually, to renew your deferment please supply the following documents.

• Deferment card (carte de sursis)
• Proof of continuing enrolment from University or place of study.

Exemption for Medical Reasons

Exemption from National Service may be granted for medical reasons.

If you wish to apply for a medical exemption please provide the following documents.

• Completed application form.
• Medical certificate.
• X-rays (if any).
• Results of specialized medical tests (if any).
• Proof of Surgical procedure (if any).
• Clinical record of the condition (if any).
• Proof of hospitalisation (if any).

Presidential Exemption

All Algerian Nationals born between the 02 of November 1959 and the 31 of December 1983

are eligible to apply for a Presidential Exemption.

Documents Required:

• Completed application form.
• Current birth certificate.
• Two recent passport photographs.
• Proof of completion of studies.
