Under the slogan "A People Who Sacrificed... and Triumphed," the Algerian Embassy in Canberra commemorated today the National Day of Remembrance, marking the massacres of May 8, 1945. On this occasion, the national flag was raised, the opening chapter of the Quran (Al-Fatiha) was recited, and prayers were offered for the souls of the martyrs. Following this, the Chargé d'Affaires, Mr. Yacine Amir, delivered a speech. In the same context, a collection of photographs from the National Archives was displayed under the title: "The Sacrifices and Resistance of the Algerian People Against the Crimes of French Colonialism 1830-1962."
